Beth Eaton started making pottery in her Bay View studio two decades ago and over the years her signature style has become immediately and joyfully recognizable at art fairs, festivals and consignment shops.

Recently, Eaton opened her first shop, 815 E. Potter Ave., in Bay View. The fact she found the perfect permanent space to sell her ultra-cute clay creations on Potter Avenue was not a coincidence lost on Eaton.

"Although I never thought about opening a space before, once I did everything quickly fell into place," says Eaton.

Eaton says she was inspired by her physical therapist who opened her own practice after working for a large health care provider for many years. "It made me wonder if I could open my own shop," says Eaton. "I started to imagine a small, European-feel storefront. I think I manifested it."

The fresh, cozy space is adorned from floor to ceiling with Eaton's useful creations. Her pieces are primarily mugs – thus the playful "Get Mugged" sign in front of the shop – as well as plates, tiles and a few other purposeful items.

Eaton plans to host small events – both indoors and out – in the new space as weather permits. She also plans to artistically collaborate with other artists and community groups, including the organization she volunteers for, RUBIES, that's aimed at preventing sex-trafficking in Milwaukee.

Born and raised in Racine, Eaton graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. From her very first ceramics class at UWM, Eaton knew it was the perfect art form for her.

"In 20 years, I've never gotten bored. I'm a producer. I make and make and make stuff – it's like a meditation for me," says Eaton. "And I feel really satisfied after a long day in the studio."

During a recent visit to the shop, numerous passers-by stopped in to congratulate Eaton or speak to her about a custom tile job. "It feels really right here," says Eaton.
